Yousef Jaber Naser scored a dramatic stoppage-time goal to give Shabab Al Ahli a 2-1 dramatic win over Al Jazira in matchweek 6 of the ADNOC Pro League at Rashid Stadium on Saturday.
It took just 30 minutes for the drama to start unfolding as Eid Khamis whipped in a cross from a set piece on the right flank amid defensive chaos, and Khalifa Alhammadi inadvertently converted the ball into the back of his own net.
Shabab Al Ahli's pressure did not stop after the goal, as Omar Khribin missed a goal-scoring chance in the stoppage time of the first half, when he was put through on goal, but his effort was brilliantly parried out by goalkeeper Ali Khaseif.
The Pride of Abu Dhabi enjoyed a strong start to the second half as they were pushing to level the scoring when Abdalla Ramadan curled a superb free-kick from about 35 yards, but his effort was denied by Shabab Al Ahli's goalkeeper Hassan Hamza Ali.
Bruno De Oliveira restored parity for Al Jazira when he found the back of the net with a deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area, which wrong-footed Shabab Al Ahli's goalkeeper Hassan Hamza Ali.
However, Yousef Jaber Naser had the final say and secured the three points for the Dubai-based side when he towered above Al Jazira's defense to thump Azizjon Ganiev's cross from a corner into the bottom corner.
The victory means Shabab Al Ahli move up to the fifth spot with ten points, while Al Jazira remain third with eleven points
