Bani Yas move up to third place with 2-0 win over Al Wahda

A goal in each half handed Bani Yas a 2-0 win over Al Wahda at Al Nahyan Stadium in matchweek 13 of the Arabian Gulf League on Saturday.

The home side controlled the early stages of the game, with Bani Yas keeper Fahad Al Dhanhani, who was handed the Best Goalkeeper award for December ahead of kick off, pulling off a fine save to deny Paul-José M'Poku's header in the 14th minute.

In the 34th minute, an effort from Joao Pedro was blocked by Al Wahda defence, before the ball fell to Gaston Suarez who fired a powerful effort into the back of the net, leaving Al Wahda keeper Mohamed Al Shamsi helpless.

Pedro then turned into a scorer in the second half, as he made it 2-0 six minutes from time. An impressive teamwork effort saw the ball fall to Suhail Al Noobi on the right side, who sent a cross inside the box that was converted by the Brazilian forward into the back of the net.

The win saw the Sky Blues end the first half of the season in third place on 26 points, two above Al Nasr who dropped to fourth. Meanwhile, Al Wahda remain on 19 points in seventh place.
