Goals from Milos Kosanovic and Abdoulay Diaby gave Al Jazira a 2-1 win over Shabab Al Ahli at Mohammad bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek 20 on Sunday.
The victory lifts the Pride of Abu Dhabi temporarily above Al Wahda, who will play tomorrow against Emirates, into second place in the ADNOC Pro League.
Zayed Al Ameri came close to giving Al Jazira an early lead after just ten minutes when he drove inside the penalty area from the right and penetrated through Shabab Al Ahli defense before his shot rattles the crossbar.
Only eight minutes later, the hosts got what they wanted when Milos Kosanovic opened the scoring of the night when he met Abdalla Ramadan's cross with a powerful header that found the back of the net.
In the 27th minute, Ali Mabkhout’s incisive throughball sent Abdoulay Diaby clear and the Mali winger effortlessly slotted into the bottom corner, adding the second goal for his side.
Shabab Al Ahli reduced the deficit when Al Jazira's goalkeeper Ali Khasief failed to properly stop Rabii's cruel deflection, giving a chance for Yahya AlGhassani to get the follow-up and hit the back of the net from close range.
The result means Al Jazira are second with 41 points, while Shabab Al Ahli’s tally froze at 30 points in fifth place.
