Baniyas and Al Jazira share the spoils

Baniyas and Al Jazira played out a 1-1 draw at Baniyas Stadium in Matchweek 21 of the ADNOC Pro League on Saturday.

Baniyas started on the front foot and by the seventh minute they had already seen an Ahmed Abu Namous goal ruled out and another counted from Ahmed Rabia who got on the end of a Sasa Ivkovic long pass, outmuscled his marker and slotted home an opener against his former club.

Having suffered a string of serious injuries his first ADNOC Pro League goal in 2,960 days since scoring for Al Jazira against Al Wahda in March 2014.

Al Jazira regrouped and pushed forward in the second half, while a Nicolas Gimenez free-kick for Baniyas hit the back of the net but was ruled out after VAR showed a foul by a Baniyas player inside the box.

Ali Mabkhout brought the visitors level in the 64th minute with a quickly taken free-kick, his first free-kick goal since December 2016 against Hatta.

The goal was the first Baniyas concede from outside the box this season, while it was AL Jazira’s tenth from free-kicks in the past three seasons, more than any other club in the league.

VAR intervened to overturn an Al Jazira penalty decision in added time as the game ended 1-1.
