Shabab Al Ahli Come from behind to Down Bani Yas 2-1

Shabab Al Ahli came from behind to secure a 2-1 home win over Bani Yas in matchweek 25 of the ADNOC Pro League at Rashid Stadium on Sunday.

Ten minutes were enough for the visitors to open their account and take the lead after Said Khamis latched onto a mis-weighed back pass from Shabab Al Ahli defender Kayque Soares to his goalkeeper, and the Bani Yas forward picked up the ball and cut inside the penalty area, before drilling into the bottom corner.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to restore parity when Nicolas Cartabia sent a fabulous cross into the penalty area from a free-kick, which was met by Walid Abbas, who stabbed it into the back of the net at the far post.

Only four minutes after the break, Shabab Al Ahli took the lead for the first time in the game when Yuri Cesar embarked on a fantastic a run culminating with a driven effort from the edge of the Bani Yas box to beat goalkeeper Fahad Al Dhanhani.

In the 84th minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Harib Suhail was brought down inside the box by Khamis Saleh Al Hammadi, prompting the referee to point to the spot and Cheickna Doumbia stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, sealing the victory for his side.

The result means that Shabab Al Ahli are now fifth with 39 points, while Bani Yas remain in ninth place with 30 points.
