Last-gasp Goal Gives Ittihad Kalaba Dramatic Win over Sharjah in ADIB Cup

In a nail-biting football showdown, Ittihad Kalba took a significant step toward the semifinals of the ADIB Cup by narrowly defeating hosts, Sharjah, with a 3-2 scoreline.

Anticipation is already building for the second leg, with Sharjah keen to overturn this setback. Historically, Sharjah have boasted an impressive track record in derby matches in the Pro League Cup, making their recent loss even more unexpected.

It was Abdelaziz Salim Ali Salim who was the architect of the opening goal of the game in the 11th minute, feeding a brilliant pass through to Majid Surour, who met it with a first-time right-footed effort into the right bottom corner of the net, to make it 1-0.

But Ittihad Kalba were undeterred by Sharjah's early lead. They countered with impressive ball possession, controlling over 64% compared to Sharjah's 35%. Their determined efforts to equalize persisted throughout the first half, though Sharjah successfully clung to their advantage.

As the second half unfolded, The visitors turned the game on its head in the 50th minute when Sharjah's defense failed to properly clear Leandro Spadacio leite's cross as the ball fell to Daniel Bessa, who fired a powerful strike into the top corner.

This goal not only leveled the match but also injected Ittihad Kalba with renewed confidence. The momentum further shifted in their favor when just 98 seconds later, Andres Vombergar added another goal. Notably, Daniel Bessa has been instrumental in four of the last five goals Ittihad Kalba scored in the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Cup.

The battle on the field escalated with Ittihad Kalba's rapid lead. Yet, Sharjah showcased their resilience and fighting spirit, equalizing in the 80th minute with a header from Sebastian Tagliabue. Interestingly, Tagliabue's last five goals in the Pro League Cup have all been against Ittihad Kalba, showcasing his knack for performing against this particular opponent.

However, just when it seemed the match might conclude in a draw, Ittihad Kalba struck a decisive blow in injury time. Filip Kiss emerged as the hero of the night, scoring the match-winning goal in the 96th minute. His last-minute effort ensured a triumphant conclusion for Ittihad Kalba, ending the match with a 3-2 scoreline in their favor.
