Khorfakkan Eclipse Ittihad Kalba after First-Half Comeback

Khorfakkan came from behind twice to defeat Ittihad Kalba 3-2 in Matchweek 25 of the ADNOC Pro League on Sunday, thus overtaking them in the table.

The home side needed just six minutes to open the scoring as Sultan Adil nodded a throw-in from the right with a looping header that nestled into the far corner with the Khorfakkan goalkeeper left rooted to the spot.

The lead lasted just four minutes before Caique equalised with a towering header, rising unopposed to guide Adel Sabeel’s cross from the left flank into the bottom corner.

The thrilling start to the game continued with Abdulaziz Hamad sending a long diagonal pass for Ahmed Jashk who setup Peniel Mlapa with a cushioned header and the Togolese forward controlled and rifled into the back of the net to restore Ittihad Kalba’s lead in the 18th minute.

Just after the half-hour mark, Dodo whipped an in-swinging cross from the corner that was met by a header from veteran winger Ismael Al Hammadi to equalise for Khorfakkan once more.

As the first half looked headed to a close, Al Hammadi added his second of the night, pouncing on a poor defensive clearance to strike on the half-volley from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner to win it for Khorfakkan.

The result means Khorfakkan take their tally to 28 points, moving one point ahead of Ittihad Kalba and into tenth place.
