First-half goals give Bani Yas 2-0 win over Hatta

Two first-half goals gave Bani Yas a 2-0 win over Hatta at Hamdan Bin Rashid Stadium in the first leg of the playoff round of the Arabian Gulf Cup on Thursday, which was held under the slogan “We commit until we succeed”.

The guests looked more dangerous in the opening minutes of the game and needed only four minutes to open the scoring. A long pass from Alvarez Suarez found Joao Pedro in midfield, and the Brazilian sprinted on the left side and made no mistake to place the ball in the back of the net, putting his side 1-0 ahead.

Hatta tried to level the scoreline but in the 21st minutes went above the bar. They had another chance six minutes later but failed to find the back of the net again as Bani Yas maintained their 1-0 advantage.

Despite controlling the possession, Hatta were less effective in front of the goal. Five minutes before the break, the guests doubled their lead. Joao Victor sent an inch-perfect cross to Mohamed Al Hammadi inside the box and the latter headed the ball past Hatta keeper Ahmed Mahmoud to give his side a 2-0 lead before the break.

Pedro continued to shine in the second half, but his first shot after the break went above the bar. He wasted another opportunity to extend as his header was saved by Mahmoud 20 minutes from time.

The Sky Blues continued to pressure the home side aiming to further extend their lead but failed as the game ended in a 2-0 win for the guests.

The Sky Blues will now have advantage when they clash with Hatta in the second leg set to be held on November 12.
