In a nail-biting finish to matchweek seven of the ADNOC Pro League, Bani Yas claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Khorfakkan at Bani Yas Stadium on Saturday.
This crucial win takes Bani Yas to 10 points, tentatively pushing them to the seventh spot in the league standings, while Khorfakkan stays at seven points.
The first half saw the teams deadlocked in a goalless draw, despite the managerial debut of Khorfakkan’s Montenegrin coach, Nebojša Jovović.
It was Suhail Ahmed Alnoobi who broke the deadlock for Bani Yas with a vital strike after teammate Ahmed Shehda Abunamous's long-range effort bounced off the post.
This goal not only marked Alnoobi's opening tally for the season but also his inaugural strike against the Khorfakkan squad.
The match escalated in intensity when Khorfakkan's resilience was challenged after Mohamed Ismaeel was sent off with a direct red card in the 74th minute for an off-the-ball incident with Bani Yas's Joao Victor Wesner. Reduced to ten men, Khorfakkan found it challenging to muster a comeback.
Despite an additional ten minutes of stoppage time, Bani Yas's defense stood strong, safeguarding their slender lead and claiming all three points on offer.
