Al Wahda return to winning ways with win over Fujairah

Al Wahda ended their four-game winless streak by defeating Fujairah 2-1 at Al Nahyan Stadium in matchweek 11 of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday night.

The first chance came in the 3rd minute when Fujairah keeper Abdulla Altamimi blocked Gianluca Muniz shot from inside the penalty area.

In the 9th minute, Al Wahda midfielder Paul-José M'Poku thought he opened the scoring, but his header was ruled out for an offside after reviewing the VAR. The Clarets had another goal ruled out for an offside after a strike by Abdulla Anwar.

Al Wahda finally managed to open the scoring in the 20th minute, when Mpoku dribbled past Fujairah defenders and sent a long-range powerful shot into the back of the net. Khalil Ibrahim then doubled Al Wahda’s lead in the 48th minute with another long-range effort.

Mohamed Firas reduced Fujairah’s deficit in the 59th minute following a good effort in the penalty area that saw him send a powerful shot into the back of Al Wahda keeper Mohamed Alshamsi’s net.

Al Wahda are now sixth on 18 points, while Fujairah remained in 12th place with seven points.
