Al Ameri nets double as Al Jazira cruise past Fujairah 3-0

Three second-half goals handed Al Jazira a 3-0 away from home win over Fujairah in matchweek 8 of the Arabian Gulf League, which is being held amid patriotic atmosphere as it coincides with the Commemoration Day and the UAE's 49th National Day.

The first real chance of the game came four minutes before the break, when Fujairah keeper Abdulla Al Tamimi denied Abdulla Ramadan’s left-footed effort from the edge of the box.

Following a goalless first half, Al Jazira looked more dangerous after the restart. Abdulla Al Tamimi denied efforts from Ali Mabkhout and Oumar Traore, before he was forced into another fine save as he block a powerful strike from Abdalla Ramadan four minutes into the second half.

The Pride of Abu Dhabi did open the scoring two minutes later. Following an impressive individual effort from Khalfan Mubarak, the ball fell to Zayed Al Ameri inside the box, who tapped home to hand his side the lead.

Fujairah came close to levelling the scoreline after the one-hour mark, but Al Jazira keeper Ali Khasif blocked Firas Ben Al Arbi’s strike, before Mohamed Al Attas diverted it into a corner.

The Pride of Abu Dhabi extended their lead in the 74th minute as Khalfan Mubarak continued to impress. He dribbled past Fujairah defender in a brilliant manner before passing the ball to Ali Mabkhout, whose effort was directed into the goal, thanks to a header from Abdalla Ramadan.

Khalfan Mubarak recorded another assist, while Al Ameri completed his brace only eight minutes from time. An inch-perfect cross from the 25-year-old midfielder found Al Ameri facing the goal to slot home and put the win beyond any doubt.

Al Jazira recorded their fifth win of the season to raise their tally to 17 points, while Fujairah succumbed to their sixth defeat to remain on four points.
