A goal from Gustavo Alex was the difference for Sharjah to secure a 1-0 home win over Khorfakkan in the first leg of the ADIB Cup's quarter-finals on Monday.
The game was cagey as both clubs failed to pose a real threat to goalkeepers until the Brazilian defender managed to break the deadlock in the second half and seal the victory for his side.
Sharjah took a 78th-minute lead when Miralem Pjanic's strike was blocked by Khorfakkan defenders as the ball fell to Gustavo Alex, who made no mistake and drilled the ball into the back of the net from the six-yard box.
