Experienced striker Makhete Diop scored a quick first half brace to help Al Dhafra pick up one of their biggest wins so far with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory against Ajman in early seventh round action of the UAE ADNOC Pro League, on Friday.
Down by an early goal that was scored by Gambia’s Bubacarr Trawally in the very third minute, Al Dhafra scored three quick goals – including a quick double from Makhete Diop - in the first half itself to assure themselves full points for only the second time this season. The first and only win till now had been against Emirates Club in Round Three.
But, it was Diop’s double that assured them of full points to take Al Dhafra temporarily into tenth position with seven points.
Despite the setback, Ajman continued in the upper half of the standings with eleven points against their name.
The 26-year-old Trawally opened the scoring in the third minute to give Ajman the lead.
But Moroccan defender Issam El Adoua pulled back an equalizer in the 18th minute before Makhete Diop scored in the 37th and 43rd minute to leave the home team struggling and against the wall.
