Al Wasl Stun Sharjah in 3-1 ADNOC Pro League Showdown

In a pulsating clash that culminated matchweek two of the ADNOC Pro League, Al Wasl secured a 3-1 win over Sharjah, marking their second consecutive victory in the opening matchweeks of the league for the first time since the 2011-2012 season.

The visitors wasted no time and took an early lead in the 6th minute after H. Seferović was put through on goal following a brilliant counter-attack as he drilled the ball into the back of the net.

The tide almost turned when Sharjah was awarded a penalty kick. However, Al Wasl's goalkeeper, Khaled Al-Senani, came up big, expertly thwarting Caio Lucas's shot. Al Senani has now saved three of the last four penalties he has faced in the ADNOC Pro League.

Fabio De Lima cemented his side's lead in the 32nd minute when Al Wasl were awarded a penalty kick after Ali Saleh was brought down inside the box by Sharjah's defender Mohammad Abdulbasit, prompting the referee to point to the spot. De Lima stepped up and drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the net, beating goalkeeper Adel Alhosani.

Al Wasl maintained their lead until halftime. However, the second half saw a rejuvenated Sharjah side. Luan Pereira managed to reduce the deficit from the spot after stepping up and sending the goalkeeper the wrong way, to make it 2-1.

However, Al Wasl put the final nail in the coffin during injury time, with Caio Canedo netting a decisive third goal off an assist by Ali Saleh.

The win means that Al Wasl sit third with 6 points, while Sharjah are ninth with 3 points.
