Ittihad Kalba and Al Wasl exchanged blows in the second half in a 1-1 draw in matchweek 18 of the ADNOC Pro League on Saturday.
Then two sides battled in the middle of the pitch for long spells of the game with no real opportunities at either end.
It took 63 minutes for the deadlock to be broken and the first goal of the night went Al Wasl’s way as Ghanem Ahmed rifled an effort from the edge of the area and a big deflection left goalkeeper Eisa Al Hooti rooted to the spot as the ball nestled in the back of the net.
Ittihad Kalba restored order in the 77th minute after Sultan Adel’s header ricocheted off the crossbar and into the path of Abdulsalam Mohammed who headed home the leveller.
The result means the gap between the two teams stays at four points with Al Wasl ninth with 23 points and Ittihad Kalba one place behind with 19.
