Shabab Al Ahli's Mahdi Ali Ready to Clinch UAE Super Cup Title

Shabab Al Ahli Head Coach Mahdi Ali insisted his side was fully prepared for the UAE Super Cup match against Al Jazira taking place at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Friday at 19:45 under the slogan ’UAE, Where the World Meets.’

"The game is of special importance for us, so we will do our best to clinch the Super Cup title for the sixth time in our history and for the second year in a row," Ali said in a press conference.

"The players have prepared well for the match, and we only need to focus and be calm, especially since finals like this are decided on small details. Both teams are an open book given the long head-to-head record between them, and the most focused and calm team is the one who will win the Super Cup.

Talisman Omar Abdulrahman has been recovering from an injury and Ali will have to make a late call on the playmaker’s involvement against his former team.

“I have great faith in all my players, and we will have to judge Omar’s ability to participate in the Super Cup during today's training session.”

Shabab Al Ahli will take part in the Super Cup after beating Al Nasr 2-1 in the 2020-21 President’s Cup final when Federico Cartabia converted a spot-kick in each half to win his side their 10th title in the competition and complete a domestic treble last season for the team that had previously won the Pro League Cup and the UAE Super Cup.

The Dubai based side had earlier eliminated Hatta in the round of 16 with a 3-0 victory, then beat Emirates club 2-0 in the quarter-finals, and knocked out Baniyas in the semi-final with a lone goal en route to the final they won against their city rivals.
