Five-time champions Shabab Al Ahli are set to face Al Jazira in the long-awaited UAE Super Cup, which will be held on Friday at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium under a special slogan ‘UAE, Where the world meets.’
The slogan emphasises UAE's position as one of the world’s leading destinations for all events.
The competition brings together the ADNOC Pro League champions Al Jazira and last season's President's Cup winners Shabab Al Ahli.
Shabab Al Ahli will take part in the Super Cup after beating Al Nasr 2-1 in the final game when Federico Cartabia converted the spot-kick in each half for Shabab Al-Ahli, which made the difference in a hard-fought cup final.
Shabab Al Ahli play in the Super Cup for the third year in a row after beating Al Nasr 2-1 in the UAE President’s Cup to win their 10th President’s Cup title and third piece of silverware of the season, having previously lifted the Pro League Cup and UAE Super Cup titles.
The Dubai based side had earlier eliminated Hatta in the round of 16 with a 3-0 victory, then beat Emirates club 2-0 in the quarter-finals and knocked out Baniyas in the semi-final with a lone goal enroute to the final they won against their city rivals.
Shabab Al Ahli hold the record for UAE Super Cup appearances with eight matches.
Meanwhile Al Jazira partake in the UAE Super Cup for the fifth time as they are looking for clinching their first title.
Al Jazira clashed against Shabab Al Ahli in the UAE Super Cup one time in 2016 when they won 2-1.
