Al Wasl managed to secure their spot in the UAE Pro League Cup quarterfinals after beating their rivals Baniyas 4-1 on aggregate in the tournament's opening round.
Having claimed a 2-1 lead in the first leg at Baniyas stadium, Al Wasl asserted they are worthy of a berth in the tournament's last 8 round with another 2-0 home win.
Al Wasl's first leg away win undoubtedly boosted the players' morale, and was crucial to them proceeding to the next round, since it made their mission at Zabeel stadium a lot easier.
A brace from Michel Araujo helped Al Wasl advance comfortably past Baniyas.
The Uruguayan first goal in the 43rd minute was set up by Abdullah Khamis who put in a great effort on the left flank before sending a low cross into the area that Araujo diverted into the net.
Araujo hit the visitors again in the 77th minute scoring his third goal against Baniyas in the two-legged fixture to help send his team through to the last eight round along with Al Nasr, Ajman, and Ittihad Kalba.
