Matchweek eight of the ADNOC Pro League wrapped up with Al Ain being held at home by Al Jazira, a result that allowed Shabab Al Ahli to close the gap at the top of the table, boosted further by Al Wahda’s draw.
Matchweek eight, the last round before the league pauses for the UAE national team’s participation in the Arab Cup, produced the highest number of penalties awarded this season.
Referees pointed to the spot five times, with four penalties successfully converted. Three matches ended level, with Al Nasr the only side to win on home soil, while Shabab Al Ahli, Bani Yas, and Al Bataeh all picked up valuable away victories.
Bani Yas recorded their first win of the season, striking four goals against Sharjah, double their tally from the first seven matchweeks combined.
Two own goals were scored in this round, but the standout statistic came from the rest of the goals: 12 were scored with the right foot, compared to just one left-footed strike and one header.
Al Wasl and Sharjah posted the highest possession figures of the week at 72%, yet neither managed to win. Al Wahda, meanwhile, produced an astonishing 33 shots, including 12 on target, but still failed to secure three points.
A third of Al Wahda’s attempts (11 shots) came from Omar Khribin, while teammate Brahima Diarra registered the most successful dribbles of the round with five. Despite Federico Cartabia creating a matchweek-high seven chances, none were converted.
Leonel Wamba delivered the only brace of the week, while Mohamed Salem, Dibba’s goalkeeper, produced 11 saves, a decisive contribution that earned his side a valuable point against Al Wahda.
