Matchweek 21 roundup: Arabian Gulf League U21 title race heats up

League leaders Al Ain dropped points for the second match in a row as they settled for a 2-2 away from home draw with Bani Yas in matchweek 21 of the Arabian Gulf League U21.

 

Shabab Al Ahli capitalized on the Boss’ stumble as they closed the gap on the leaders to three points only after winning 5-1 against Sharjah, who dropped to third place.

 

The King are now leveled on 42 points with fourth-placed Al Wahda after the Clarets defeated Al Dhafra 3-1 at Al Nahyan Stadium. They are only one point clear of Ittihad Kalba who cruised to a 3-0 win over Al Nasr.

 

The Tigers extended the gap with Al Jazira to 13 points after the Pride of Abu Dhabi fell to a 3-2 defeat against Fujairah. Meanwhile, Al Wasl are now tied on 27 points with Fujairah, as the former succumbed to a 1-0 loss to ninth-placed Ajman. The Oranges have 26 points, four clear of Bani Yas. 

 

Khorfakkan and Hatta shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw to sit 11th and 12th, respectively. Meanwhile, Al Nasr are 13th, five points clear of Al Dhafra who linger at the bottom of the standings.
