Matchweek 11 roundup: Top positions remain unchanged

The top three positions were unchanged in matchweek 11 of the Arabian Gulf League after Sharjah, Al Jazira and Al Nasr earned wins.

 

After losing to Bani Yas in the previous matchweek, Sharjah returned to winning ways and earned a close 3-2 win over Hatta at Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium. They are now tied on 26 points with second-placed Al Jazira, who cruised past Ajman 3-0 at Mohammad bin Zayed Stadium.

 

Al Nasr continued their top spot chase, as they defeated Al Dhafra 2-0 to raise their tally to 23 points in third place.

 

After their impressive result against Sharjah in matchweek 10, Bani Yas were held to a 0-0 draw with Shabab Al Ahli at Rashid Stadium. The draw left the Sky Blues in fourth place with 20 points, one above Al Ain who played out a 1-1 draw with Ittihad Kalba at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium. Meanwhile, the Tigers are tied on 18 points with sixth-placed Al Wahda who defeated Fujairah 2-1.

 

Al Wasl edged Khorfakkan 1-0 and are now tied on 15 points with Shabab Al Ahli and Al Dhafra.

 

Meanwhile, Khorfakkan sit 11th on eight points, one above 12th-placed Fujairah. Ajman and Hatta occupy the bottom two positions and remain winless with three and one points, respectively.

 

Matchweek 11 in Numbers

 

Al Jazira currently hold the best offensive record in the league after scoring 26 goals, while Ajman are the worst with five goals only. On the defensive side, Hatta are the worst after conceding 30 goals so far, while the best are Bani Yas and Al Jazira who conceded nine goals each.

 

Al Jazira and Al Wahda are the only teams who won at home in matchweek 11, while Sharjah, Al Wasl and Al Nasr earned away from home wins.

 

Sharjah’s Welliton Soares and Igor Jesus of Shabab Al Ahli jointly top the goalscoring charts with 10 goals each, two above Bani Yas’ Joao Pedro and Sharjah’s Igor Coronado.
