Beyond the race for silverware, the Challenge Cup clash between Al Jazira and Al Ahli brings added intrigue through a compelling tactical battle between two experienced and ambitious head coaches.
The match will take place on Sunday evening as part of the third edition of the UAE–Qatar Super Cup, with both managers aiming to impose their philosophies on one of the competition’s most prestigious stages.
Al Jazira are led by Croatian-Dutch coach Marino Pušić, who took charge in September 2025. Pušić built his coaching foundations in Europe, gaining valuable experience as assistant coach to Arne Slot at Feyenoord, where he played a key role in domestic league campaigns and European competitions.
One of the defining chapters of Pušić’s career came during his time as head coach of Shakhtar Donetsk, where he guided the Ukrainian giants to the Ukrainian Premier League title. That achievement strengthened his credentials before his move to Abu Dhabi.
Pušić is recognised for a coaching style that blends tactical organisation with physical preparation and detailed analysis, drawing heavily on his European background as he looks to implement his philosophy with Al Jazira in the Challenge Cup.
On the opposite bench stands Younes Ali, who has been in charge of Al Ahli since November 2025, following the departure of Igor Bišćan. Younes Ali has built a strong reputation in Qatari football, having previously coached Al Markhiya, Qatar SC, and Al Arabi.
His profile rose significantly after leading Al Arabi to the Emir of Qatar Cup in the 2022–23 season, ending a 30-year trophy drought. He later added the UAE–Qatar Super Cup title in the 2023–24 season and was named Qatar FA Coach of the Year for the 2022–23 campaign.
Known for balancing attack and defence, Younes Ali places strong emphasis on tactical discipline, detailed analysis, and effective player management—setting the stage for a fascinating touchline duel against Pušić.
