Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium will host a highly anticipated Challenge Cup encounter on Sunday evening, as Al Jazira take on Al Ahli as part of the third edition of the UAE–Qatar Super Cup.
Al Jazira enter the Challenge Cup for the first time, supported by an impressive history of domestic and regional success. The Pride of Abu Dhabi have won the ADNOC Pro League on three occasions, lifted the President’s Cup three times, claimed the ADIB Cup twice, and added the UAE Federation Cup and the GCC Clubs Champions Cup to their honours. The club also achieved a historic fourth-place finish at the FIFA Club World Cup and secured the UAE Super Cup.
Now, Al Jazira aim to write a new chapter by capturing their first Challenge Cup title at the first attempt and adding another milestone to their decorated legacy.
Standing in their way is Al Ahli of Qatar, a club with deep roots dating back to 1950. Known as Al Ameed, after previously competing under the name “Al Najah,” Al Ahli arrive with a strong domestic pedigree and clear ambitions on the regional stage.
The Doha-based side boast four Emir of Qatar Cup titles and a Qatar Second Division championship, and they will be determined to leave their mark on the UAE–Qatar Super Cup with a statement performance.
The contest represents a true test of ambition: Al Jazira chasing history in their debut appearance, and Al Ahli seeking to assert their presence in a competition that unites elite Emirati and Qatari football.
