The Arabian Gulf Super Cup match, which saw Shabab Al Ahli beat Sharjah to the title at Al Nasr Club’s Al Maktoum Stadium on Friday night, witnessed a number of unprecedented initiatives amid an extraordinary atmosphere.
The match was held under the slogan of “Our Winter is Super” in line with the “World’s Coolest Winter” initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as part of the UAE’s strategy to promote domestic tourism in the UAE in winter.
The match was broadcast in 4K using 22 cameras, as well as augmented reality, 360 virtual reality and player point of view technology. The event kicked off with a magnificent laser show that highlighted the previous clashes between both sides along with their most significant goals, the 14 UAE Pro League teams, as well as the efforts of the first line of defence members. The show sent a message of appreciation to our wise leadership and concerned authorities for their efforts in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic.
During halftime, UAE Pro League chairman Abdulla Naser Al-Jneibi honored General Authority of Sports chairman His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi and UAE Football Association chairman Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, as well as the Arabian Gulf Super Cup guests, including TV host Mustafa Al Agha, football legend Clarence Seedorf and former UAE national team forward Fahad Khamees.
After the game, the UAE Pro League sponsors were also honored including Mubadrat The President's Initiatives, Emirates airline, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Etisalat, Al Nabooda Automobiles, Rixos Hotels, Nike, AD Sports, Dubai Sports TV and Sharjah Sports TV. In addition, Shabab Al Ahli’s Federico Cartabia was handed the best player in the Arabian Gulf Super Cup award after his impressive performance in the match.
Seedorf and Khamees presented the trophy to UAE Football Association chairman Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi after it was revealed in a creative technique.
For his part, UAE Pro League chairman Abdulla Naser Al-Jneibi thanked UAE Football Association chairman Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi for attending the Arabian Gulf Super Cup match and honoring the two teams by handing them the medals and the trophy. He also thanked General Authority of Sports chairman His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi and other reputable attendees for supporting the event.
Al-Jneibi stressed that while we are celebrating the first champion of the season, our actual celebration is the UAE’s success in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and the return of football with confident steps, in addition to the global desire to be here at the UAE, amid the “World’s Coolest Winter” initiative. He added that the UAE Pro League was honored to adopt the “Our Winter is Super" slogan in line with this pioneering initiative.
Al-Jneibi congratulated both teams for their performances and for putting in an enjoyable match for fans watching on TV, while displaying brotherly sporting spirit that proves that everyone is a winner in this beautiful match on the land of goodness, tolerance and love.
Al-Jneibi concluded by thanking the work teams who worked hard in the past period to present a distinctive event, and to Al Nasr Club and the workers at Al Maktoum Stadium for their efforts in equipping the stadium with the best facilities and services, and to the media that have been covering the event and its preparations since the very beginning.
