The UAE booked their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA Arab Cup after beating holders Algeria 7-6 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw after extra time, in Friday’s quarter-final at Al Bayt Stadium.
Algeria took the lead in the stoppage time of the first half when Adil Boulbina scored in the 46th minute.
The UAE responded in the second half, with Bruno de Oliveira equalizing in the 64th minute to take the match into extra time.
With neither side able to find a winner, the game was decided by a penalty shootout, where the UAE held their nerve to secure victory and knock out the defending champions.
The UAE will now face Morocco in the semi-finals on Monday.
