There were no advantages for the home teams in the first leg of the Arabian Gulf Cup semi-final as two away wins were secured, with Ittihad Kalba edging Al Nasr 2-1 at Al Maktoum Stadium and Shabab Al Ahli beating Al Wasl 2-0 at Zabeel Stadium.
Kalba capitalized on Al Nasr’s numerical disadvantage, who were reduced to 10 men since the sixth minute. The Tigers netted an early opener when Peniel Mlapa converted from the spot, before Nasir Abdelhadi doubled their lead in the 18th minute. Toze scored a penalty ahead of the break to keep the titleholders hopes alive ahead of the second leg.
This marked Al Nasr’s first game under the leadership of newly appointed Argentine coach Ramón Díaz.
The other semi-final saw Shabab Al Ahli edge a step closer to their third straight Arabian Gulf Cup final after beating Al Wasl 2-0 away from home. The guests scored a goal in each half, courtesy of Igor Jesus and Mohamed Jaber.
The second leg will be held on March 2nd, with Kalba hosting Al Nasr at Ittihad Kalba Stadium and Shabab Al Ahli welcoming Al Wasl at Rashid Stadium.
