Al Wasl made a stunning start to their AFC Champions League 2 campaign with a dominant 7-1 victory over Esteghlal of Iran on Wednesday night at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai.
Fabio Lima opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Nicolas Giménez doubled the advantage just five minutes later.
Pedro Malheiro added a third in the 41st minute, but Esteghlal briefly cut the deficit through Roozbeh Cheshmi's goal on the stroke of half-time.
The second half belonged entirely to the hosts.
Renato Júnior struck twice in the 57th and 85th minutes, Soufiane Bouftini found the net in the 72nd, and Lima completed his brace in stoppage time to cap a memorable night for Al Wasl.
The emphatic win puts Al Wasl at the top of Group A with three points, while Esteghlal sit bottom with none. The group also features Al Wehdat of Jordan and Muharraq of Bahrain.
