Al Wasl secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Al Bataeh in Matchweek four of the ADNOC Pro League, with Ali Saleh scoring the decisive goal in the 30th minute at Khalid bin Mohammed Stadium.
The result lifts Al Wasl to fifth place in the standings with seven points, while Al Bataeh remain on three points in 12th position.
Al Wasl dominated the first half and were denied an early breakthrough when the crossbar stopped them in the 10th minute.
They finally made their pressure count when Ali Saleh produced a fine piece of control before firing a superb volley past goalkeeper Ibrahim Essa.
Al Bataeh nearly equalised before half-time when the post denied them, but their second-half efforts to get back into the match were frustrated by strong defending and sharp goalkeeping from Mohammed Ali.
