Ajman secured their first win of the ADNOC Pro League season as Junior Flemmings’ header proved decisive in a 1-0 victory over Al Bataeh in matchweek three on Friday.
The opening half was a tense affair with both sides creating opportunities but failing to capitalise.
Waleed Azaro spurned the clearest chances for Ajman, missing twice in the space of a minute as he dragged one shot wide before firing another narrowly past the upright. Al Bataeh, meanwhile, struggled to find rhythm in the final third despite enjoying promising spells of possession.
Just two minutes into the second half, the breakthrough arrived. Lithierry Silva delivered a perfectly weighted cross to the far post, where Flemmings timed his run expertly to guide a firm header beyond the goalkeeper, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
Al Bataeh pushed forward in search of an equaliser and should have levelled in the 73rd minute.
Oumar Keita broke free one-on-one with the Ajman's keeper, only to steer his effort agonisingly wide of the post.
Their best opportunity came with seven minutes left when Azizjon Ganiev stepped up from the penalty spot, but the midfielder fired his kick high over the crossbar.
In stoppage time, drama unfolded as Gianluca Muniz thought he had snatched a late equaliser, but the celebrations were cut short by the Video Assistant Referee's decision for an offside. That decision ensured Ajman held on for a vital three points.
The win lifts Ajman into 12th place on three points, level with Al Bataeh, who remain 11th due to a slightly better goal difference.
Both sides will now look to build momentum in the coming weeks, with Ajman hoping this result marks a turning point in their campaign.
