Al Wasl earned a crucial 3-1 win over Bani Yas on Tuesday night at Zabeel Stadium, kicking off Matchweek 25 of the ADNOC Pro League.
The win lifted Al Wasl to 46 points, moving them into second place, while Bani Yas remain on 26 points in 11th.
The hosts started strong and were rewarded early when Joao Victor Wesner of Bani Yas scored an own goal in the 12th minute, giving Al Wasl the lead.
Bani Yas’s task became harder in the 28th minute when Hasan Almuharrami was sent off after a VAR review upgraded his yellow card to red.
Al Wasl continued to dominate in the second half. Siaka Sidibé doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, capitalizing on a rebound from goalkeeper Fahad Aldhanhani.
Bani Yas responded with a goal in the 60th minute through Lazar Markovic, who finished well after a smart assist from Arnaud Lusamba.
But Al Wasl sealed the win late on when Joao Pedro struck in the 87th minute, restoring the two-goal cushion.
The game ended with further frustration for Bani Yas, as Suhail Ahmed Alnoobi was shown a straight red card in stoppage time (90+5).
