Shabab Al Ahli jumped to the top of the ADNOC Pro League's table after snatching a 1-0 win over Al Ain in a postponed game from matchweek seven at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Friday.
Shabab Al Ahli had gone ahead after 34 minutes when Rikelme Hernandes made a nice move on the left flank as he turned Bandar Al Ahbabi on the byline before sending the ball to Guilherme Da Silva inside the box.
Da Silva rounded the ball to Sardar Azmoum, who smashed his finish into the back of the net.
Al Ain were awarded a golden chance to restore parity when Soufinae Rahimi was fouled by Igor Gomes Silva inside the box, but goalkeeper Hamad Abdullah Almeqbaali was the hero as he parried away Laba Kodjo's powerful shot from the spot.
The hosts dominated the second half, but it seemed that their players forgot their scoring boots at home.
The result means that Shabab Al Ahli are now topping the table with 29 points, while Al Ain are sixth with 19 points.
