Al Wahda secured their third consecutive win after edging Sharjah 1-0 at Al Nahyan Stadium in Matchweek 5 of the ADNOC Pro League.
The only goal came in the 10th minute when Sharjah striker Laba Kodjo inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, giving the hosts an early lead.
Sharjah almost equalized six minutes later when Ousmane Camara capitalized on a defensive mistake, but Al Wahda goalkeeper Facoundo Lirussi kept out his effort.
The visitors continued to search for a way back into the game, but Al Wahda took their narrow advantage into halftime.
The hosts came close to doubling their lead in the 62nd minute, when Adel Alhosani produced a fine save to deny Omar Khribin.
Alhosani came to Sharjah’s rescue again in the 77th minute, saving a penalty from Khribin and keeping his side in contention.
Sharjah pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but Al Wahda held firm to secure all three points.
The victory took Al Wahda to nine points in sixth place, level with fifth-placed Sharjah.
It was the third own goal recorded in ADNOC Pro League meetings between the two sides.
