Al Wasl delivered an impressive 3-1 victory over Bani Yas in the first leg of the ADIB Cup quarter-finals on Sunday at Zabeel Stadium.
The result puts Al Wasl in a commanding position ahead of the decisive second leg, set for December 29 at Bani Yas Club Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Al Wasl started with relentless attacking energy, dominating the pace of the game and keeping Bani Yas on the back foot.
The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when Adama Diallo reacted quickly to a rebound off goalkeeper Fahad Aldhanhani, scoring his fifth goal in seven ADIB Cup matches.
In the second half, Al Wasl extended their lead in the 49th minute through Jonatas Santos, who converted an assist from Nicolas Giménez with a clinical finish.
The momentum stayed firmly with Al Wasl, and they struck again when South Korean defender Seunghyun Jung scored with a precise header from Ali Saleh’s cross, making it 3-0.
Bani Yas pushed back late in the match and managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time through Lazar Markovic (90+2).
Despite the late strike, Al Wasl left the field with a well-earned victory, putting them in a strong position to advance to the semi-finals.
