2020-2021 season review: 390 fixtures across all UAE Pro League competitions

After 390 matches were played over eight months, the 2020-21 season is now in the books as all the UAE Pro League competitions came to an end, including the Arabian Gulf League, Arabian Gulf Cup, Arabian Gulf Super Cup, and Arabian Gulf League U21.

The season, which was the first to be played amid the Covid-19 pandemic, kicked off with the first leg of the Arabian Gulf Cup playoff round on October 8, 2020, and ended with the final matchweek of the Arabian Gulf League on May 11, 2021, wrapping up a 215-day season.

The season witnessed one match in the Arabian Gulf Super Cup between Sharjah and Shabab Al Ahli, 182 fixtures in each of the Arabian Gulf League and Arabian Gulf League U21.

Meanwhile, the Arabian Gulf Cup included 25 games only after scrapping the group stage and replacing it with two-legged ties from the start (except for the final game). The playoff round saw the participation of 12 teams only, as Arabian Gulf League reigning champions Sharjah and Arabian Gulf Cup titleholders Al Nasr received a bye to the quarter-final.

Al Jazira sealed their third league title with 57 points, while Shabab Al Ahli dominated the rest of the UAE Pro League competitions, having won the Arabian Gulf Super Cup title after beating Sharjah 1-0, claimed the Arabian Gulf Cup trophy with a 5-4 win on penalties against Al Nasr, and won the Arabian Gulf League U21 title for the first time.
