Mlapa helps Ittihad Kalba cruise to 3-0 win over Fujairah

Ittihad Kalba put in a dominant second-half performance to cruise past hosts Fujairah 3-0 in matchweek 18 of the Arabian Gulf League on Thursday.

The first chance of the game fell to Ittihad Kalba's Davide Mariani whose 5th-minute effort sailed inches wide of goal. Ittihad Kalba keeper Jamal Abdulla was called into action to deny Firas Ben Larbi's free-kick in the 32nd minute.

After reviewing the VAR, the guests were awarded a penalty kick in injury time for a handball in the penalty area. Peniel Mlapa stepped up and converted from the spot to hand his side a 1-0 advantage ahead of the break.

The Tigers kicked off the second half in a strong manner, as they doubled their lead only eight minutes after the restart. Mariani’s free-kick found Mohamed Sabeel and the latter made no mistake, putting his side 2-0 up.

Ittihad Kalba went in search of a third goal but were repeatedly denied by keeper Saleh Rabei. They eventually extended their lead when Mlapa fired into an empty net to grab his second of the night in the 87th minute and seal a 3-0 win for the guests.

Kalba returned to winning ways and raised their tally to 26 points. Meanwhile, Fujairah risk dropping into the relegation zone as they remained on 10 points.
