Al Ain and Al Wahda suffered defeats, while Sharjah were held to a draw as the top three teams in the Arabian Gulf League U21 standings dropped valuable points in matchweek 17.
Al Ain lost their first game in the Arabian Gulf League U21 campaign, as Fujairah secured a 2-1 home win to end the Boss’ 16-game unbeaten run in the 2020/21 season.
Sharjah failed to capitalize on Al Ain’s stumble as they played out a 1-1 draw with Al Dhafra, who linger at the other end of the table with 10 points. The King reduced the gap with the league leaders to five points.
Al Wahda also missed a chance to replace Sharjah on the standings after they succumbed to a 4-3 defeat to Khorfakkan at Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi Stadium, leaving them in third place on 32 points.
They are one point above Shabab Al Ahli who moved into the top four after beating Hatta 2-0 at Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium.
Ittihad Kalba remained winless for the third game in a row as they lost 3-2 to Al Wasl at home to drop to fifth place on 29 points.
A late goal handed Al Jazira a 2-1 win over Bani Yas, which meant that the Pride of Abu Dhabi will remain tied on points with Al Wasl. While both sides have 27 points, Al Wasl trail Al Jazira by virtue of a head-to-head record.
Ajman snatched a late 2-1 win over Al Nasr to maintain their eighth place and raise their tally to 23 points, three above Fujairah who moved one spot up after beating Al Ain. They replaced the Sky Blues who suffered their ninth defeat of the season, which left them in 10th place with 18 points, two above Khorfakkan.
Hatta and Al Nasr positions remained unchanged as they are tied on 12 points, occupying 12th and 13th spots, respectively, two points above bottom-placed Al Dhafra.
