Shabab Al Ahli lift Arabian Gulf League U21 trophy

Shabab Al Ahli lifted the Arabian Gulf League U21 trophy after drawing 1-1 with Al Nasr at Maktoum Bin Rashid Stadium in the final matchweek of the competition on Wednesday. 

 

Shabab Al Ahli, who had sealed the title in the penultimate matchweek, finished off the season at the top with 56 points, while Al Nasr are 11th with 25 points. 

 

UAEPL board member and Chairman of the Technical Committee Hassan Taleb Al Marri handed Shabab Al Ahli the Arabian Gulf League U21 trophy in the presence of Shabab Al Ahli Football Company Deputy Chairman Ibrahim Abdul Malik.

 

Shabab Al Ahli are the sixth club to win the Arabian Gulf League U21 title since its introduction in the 2008-09 season. Al Jazira were crowned champions in the 2008-09 season, Al Ain won the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2018-19 titles. Meanwhile, Sharjah won the title in the 2015-16 season, Al Wahda were champions in the 2016-17 season and Al Nasr lifted the title in the 2017-18 season. 

 

Abdelaziz Mohamed opened the scoring for Shabab Al Ahli sixth minutes after the restart and Sultan Fayez leveled the scoreline with an own goal four minutes from time. 

 

Elsewhere, Al Ain defeated Hatta 3-0 to seal a second-place finish with 53 points. They are two points clear of third-placed Ittihad Kalba who defeated Sharjah 2-1, as the latter finished in fourth place. 

 

Bani Yas defeated Al Wahda 5-2, leaving the latter in fifth place on 48 points. Meanwhile, sixth-placed Al Jazira edged Khorfakkan 4-3, Al Wasl defeated Al Dhafra 2-1, and Ajman played out 0-0 with Fujairah.
