Al Ain missed out on a spot in the group stage of the AFC Champions League after losing 4-0 to Iranian side Foolad Khouzestan FC in the playoffs at Faisal bin Fahd Stadium on Saturday.
Saleh Hardani, Ayanda Patosi and Chimba (2 goals) netted for Foolad who sealed their spot in Group D alongside Qatari side Al Sadd SC, Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, and Jordanian side Al Wehdat.
Al Ain, who won the title in the 2002-03 season, failed to qualify to the group stage for only the fourth time after 2008, 2009, and 2012.
